Construction Skip Bins in Adelaide

A site bin is a different problem to a driveway bin. It’s not one delivery and one pickup – it’s a bin that has to be there when the frame goes up, gone before the crane arrives, back for the fit-out.

We run construction skip bins across metro Adelaide on that basis: scheduled swaps, trade accounts, and a phone number that gets answered by someone who knows what stage your job is at.

Trade accounts and scheduled swaps

Accounts

14-day terms for established builders. PO numbers carried through to the invoice so your admin isn't chasing them.

Standing rates

Priced once, not requoted every time a supervisor rings. If you're running several jobs, the rate holds across all of them.

One contact

You're not explaining the site access to a different person each time.

What each build stage produces

Getting the bin sized right is easier when you plan by stage rather than reacting to the pile.

Slab and footings

spoil, formwork offcuts, concrete washout, packaging. Spoil is heavy and often better handled as a separate clean fill load than mixed into a general bin.

Frame

timber offcuts, strapping, plastic wrap, pallets. Bulky and light, so volume is the constraint rather than weight. This is where a larger bin earns its keep.

Lock-up

brick and block offcuts, mortar, roof tile breakage, sarking, wrap, plasterboard offcuts. Density jumps sharply here. Watch the tonnage.

Fit-out

and this is the stage everyone underestimates. Cabinetry and appliance packaging alone generates an enormous volume: cardboard, polystyrene, pallet wrap, strapping, protective film. It's almost weightless and it fills a bin faster than anything else on the job.

Landscaping and handover

surplus material, offcuts, general site rubbish, the accumulated stuff nobody claimed.

Segregating streams on site

If your site has room for more than one bin, separating waste is worth real money rather than being a box-ticking exercise.

Clean hard fill

bricks, concrete, tiles, rubble. Goes to a crusher. Substantially cheaper than mixed waste, and the difference across a full build is not small.

Timber

clean untreated offcuts are recoverable. Treated and painted timber isn't, and one treated sleeper in the load reclassifies it.

Metal

offcuts, framing, ducting, guttering. Scrap merchants will generally take a load, and depending on the market it may be worth something rather than costing you. At minimum it keeps weight out of your general bin.

Cardboard

the fit-out stage produces enough to justify its own bin on a decent-sized job.

General

everything that doesn't sort.

The catch is discipline. Segregation only pays if the whole crew follows it, and one contaminated load undoes the saving on three clean ones. If the site is tight or the crew turns over a lot, a single mixed bin priced honestly is a better outcome than a segregation system nobody keeps to.

Site access and placement

Most failed deliveries on construction sites come down to the same handful of things.

Overhead

Powerlines and low branches stop a skip bin loader cold. The bin has to be lifted, not slid.

Crane and truck movements

If there's a lift booked, tell us. A bin in the crane zone on the wrong morning holds up everyone.

Scaffold

Once it's up, the drop zone often disappears. Worth agreeing the bin position before the scaffolders arrive.

Gates, keys and inductions

If the site is locked or requires an induction for entry, we need to know at booking. Our driver can't wait forty minutes for someone to come down and open it.

Finished surfaces

If the bin has to sit on a new driveway or paving, we'll put timber packers under it - but tell us it's there, because a loaded bin on fresh concrete leaves marks.

No driveway yet

New builds often have nowhere on-site to put a bin, which means road or verge placement and a council permit. Permits take a few business days across Adelaide councils, so this needs sorting before the bin is urgent, not when it is.

Bins must sit level with the rimnished surfaces

Overloaded bins can't be tarped and won't be collected. That's a road transport requirement, not a preference, and a refused pickup costs you a day.

Sizing

Bin size

Best suited to

4m³

Heavy waste – rubble, masonry, spoil

6m³

Mixed site waste, small jobs

9m³

General construction, lock-up stage

Heavy and mixed loads are capped at 4m³. Dense material hits road weight limits well before the bin is physically full, so two swaps beats one overweight truck that can’t legally leave the site.

What can't go in

Asbestos - specialised wrapped bin and licensed disposal only. Common in demolition and refurbishment work on pre-1990 buildings. See our renovation waste removal page for what to do if you find it.

Paints, solvents, adhesives, sealants, form oil - liquid waste

Gas bottles and aerosols

Contaminated soil - needs assessment and a separate disposal pathway

Concrete washout and slurry

Fluorescent tubes and batteries

Frequently Asked Questions

How fast are swaps?

Typically within 24 hours on metro sites during business hours. Book the morning before where you can and it’s a certainty rather than a hope.

Standing trade rates are set when the account opens. Standard pricing is on our skip bin prices page.

Yes, plus [outer areas] with a delivery surcharge quoted upfront.
